Historically the Christian church has moved toward one of two extremes sides of the spectrum: legalism or liberalism. We live in a culture that likes to take black and white biblical commands – absolute truths, blur the lines and make them grey. And we as Christians tend to be uncomfortable with grey areas and tend to take them and try to make them black and white. So what do we do about topics that the Bible doesn’t clearly lay out for us what to do or not to do? How in the world do we keep unity with all these different opinions? We tend to think anyone that’s more free in their thinking and living than us is a liberal and anyone more disciplined than us is a legalist. We ourselves are the perfect balance of moderation. Let’s see what Romans 14 has to say about that.
